Silicon Valley, January 23, 2024 – OpenAI, a leading artificial intelligence (AI) startup, has recently suspended the developer account responsible for the creation of dean.bot, a chatbot designed to impersonate Democratic presidential candidate Dean Phillips. The suspension comes in response to the developer’s violation of OpenAI’s usage policies, which disallow political campaigning and the dissemination of misinformation.
The dean.bot chatbot, powered by OpenAI’s ChatGPT technology, was developed by entrepreneurs Matt Krisiloff and Jed Somers from the AI startup Delphi. It aimed to simulate the voice and positions of Congressman Dean Phillips in his political campaign for the 2024 presidential election.
OpenAI’s decision to suspend the developer account marks the first known instance of a chatbot developer being penalized for violating the company’s usage policies. OpenAI spokesperson, Jane Doe, stated, “Anyone who builds with our tools must follow our usage policies, which specifically disallow political campaigning and the spread of misinformation.
